Wanna know how the reviewers are responding to the home-grown crime novel? Then here’s a take on how they’ve raved over Margie Orford’s latest – Daddy’s Girl. In case you’ve been in prison for the last few months (or maybe the last three years) and haven’t been aware of her Clare Hart series let us put you in the know: you see Daddy’s Girl is the third in the series but a prequel to the previous two, Like Clockwork and Blood Rose. So get with the programme. If you’re a television nut then you might want to check out Margie on Carte Blanche this Sunday evening. And on Monday Crime Beat releases the transcript of a quiet chat we had with her under the interrogation lights. Meanwhile, take a decko at what the reviewers had to say:
‘Margie Orford, queen of South African crime thrillers, has cracked it.’ – Sue Grant-Marshall (Business Day, The Weekender)
‘Orford is one of a select club of South African crime writers who has built an international readership. One can see why.’ – William Saunderson-Meyer (The Weekender)
‘…chilling reading… Orford’s books often have the knack of being impossible to let go of.’ – Natalie Bosman (The Citizen)
‘Orford is too good a writer to write a bad book. […] Smart, sassy and, dare one say it, sexy – Margie Orford’s latest offering in the Clare Hart series, Daddy’s Girl, is all of these things and more.’ – Jen Crocker (Cape Times)
‘Margie Orford is to Cape Town what Val McDermid is to the north of England. […] Thriller fans will be delighted by this, the latest Clare Hart novel. But, as I said before, the Cape tourist industry, and sections of the South African police, I suspect, will not.’ – Anthony Egan (Mail & Guardian)
‘A terrific read.’ – Stephanie Alexander (The Witness)
“This is Orford at her best.’ – (O Magazine)

Thanks Colleen. People have been very generous. And DADDY'S GIRL was hard to write - I got very lost in the wood looking for the trees!

These are fantastic reviews, Margie, congratulations. Looking forward to catching you on Carte Blanche this weekend. So wonderful to see crime fiction getting the wide attention it deserves (finally).

I am hoping that all the criminals - inside government and out - take to reading about crime instead of tediously doing crime all the time!
